An important class of object oriented programs represents the state of the computation in terms of a set of persistent objects. These objects encapsulate the state of the computation and include the fundamental operations to solve the problem as methods for the objects. In these cases, an effective solution to the concurrency problem is to make these persistent objects distinct software agents (the actors) that interact over distinct channels (message passing).
